So last night was a lot of fun. Right after work I went down to the Crush Champagne Lounge for a wine tasting/networking experience. I wasn't participating so much as working it or rather putting in some volunteer time for a very worthy cause, Richmond Youth Services. How did I hear about this program? Kind of a funny story really.
When I first started at VIP, there was a guy who went by Edge working for one of our clients, Lin Haw, who called in lots of trips and we got to know each other a bit by chatting when we had the chance. Really nice guy. Two and a bit years later I bid good bye to VIP for school. While I was at school, he left Lin Haw to go to work for RYSA as the Development Manager or something like that. I came back to VIP in June and then in either late August or early September I was on a break when Sandra told me that she had passed Edge over to my voicemail. I was thinking who the heck is this. I've known 2 guys who have called themselves Edge. The guy from Lin Haw and Scott. I thought until I listened to the voice mail that it might be Scott, but I had no clue how he would have tracked me down. Anyways. I went to my desk and listened to the voicemail and Edge/Aaron told me about the program he's working for and that he needed to set up a courier, didn't have an account, and was hoping when he called that I had come back 'cause he missed talking to me. So I called him back, we chatted for a bit, I set up the trip for him and he mentioned that RYSA was hosting an event called Uncorked! and that it would be great if I wanted to come down and see what they're all about. Jer and I made plans, but didn't buy tickets to go when Aaron called me back and asked if I would mind actually helping out with the event as they needed an extra hand for the balloon popping event. I jumped at it, because as many of you guys know I love doing volunteer work, and said sure.
So I went to it last night. It was a ton of fun. The balloons were 1 for $10, 2 for $15 or 3 for $20. Each balloon was a winner of an item worth a minimum of $30. Lots of neat prizes. Most of the people were going for the 3/$20 option. All in all we raised about $475 in the space of 1 hour. Once we told people what was going on, it caught on like wild fire and people were buying left right and center, so much so that the other girl and I had trouble keeping up with them all.
So much fun. Time to go to work now tho.
